How understanding our fears can help us respond with courage, compassion and respect. Fear is not always obvious. Sometimes it looks like hesitation. Sometimes it looks like anger. Sometimes it looks like silence. Sometimes it looks like judgement. And sometimes, surprisingly, it looks like confidence. Think about a simple situation. Someone expresses an opinion that is completely different from yours. Before you have even understood what they are saying, something inside you reacts: “How can anyone think like that?” You become defensive. You want to prove them wrong.
